Steve
studied sculpture at St
Martins School of Art, graduating in 1974 and completing an Art
Teachers Certificate at Goldsmiths College in 1976. He taught at Art
Schools throughout East Anglia until he retired from teaching in 2011.
Steve
lived on the North Norfolk coast for 20 years and his sculpture
is inspired by the sea and its power to transform and disguise anything
in its wake. By using brand new materials, wood, steel and concrete and
disguising their origins he invites the viewer to invent a history or
function.
In each sculpture there are tangible elements of a previous existence.
Steve has
exhibited in group and solo shows throughout East Anglia and
in London since 1976. He was a member of the Norwich Twenty Group and
Norfolk Contemporary Arts. His work can be found in private collections
in the UK and Europe.
Steve
returned to his native North Yorkshire in 2013 where he has his
new home and studio.
Outhouse Gallery, originally created as a showing space for Steve's
work in Norfolk, now only exists on this website as a host gallery.
